A beginners course with easy to follow tutorials and full support available.
Have you ever wondered how to capture that old skool sound from the late 80's that came out of Chicago? Well here at Waxadisc I have created just that for you to take full advantage of and adapt parts of this course to build on your own skills as a producer.
The Old Skool Acid Piano House course is a 19 part video class which i has been designed for the beginner or those who are just starting to find their way around Ableton without too much struggle.
I have broken the course down from installing the plug ins to beginning the drum programming using the iconic Roland 808 drum machine and developed a beat that is instantly catchy but very simple to produce.
The course only requires you to download a few free vst plug ins at no extra cost which are all included in the course materials, so everything you need for the course from the samples to the videos etc is all in one folder when you download it.
In the folder are the vocal samples, the midi files, the vst links and the full template that I have created so you can use it as a reference point. I have made this in Ableton 10 so you can open it in that and anything above.
The track that you will be producing in this tutorial is made up of the main elements of early House Music production techniques which are the following
A Solid Bass sound from a FM Synth
A Piano riff
An Acid 303 Bass line
A Minor Chord Pad
808 Drum Beats
PWM String leads
A good Vocal hook
The elements listed above might seem like a small list but they are all you need for this kind of track. The less is more approach here is the key for a solid track. You do not need layer after layer of sounds, as back in the day they never had the option to keep adding channels to their mix in the studio as more often than not the studio would only be a 16 track one which limited the artist so they made the most of what they had and as an outcome the music they produced was brilliant as when you have less you create more.
The video below is the full demo of what you are to produce in this course. The idea is you take this template and these ideas and use them as a benchmark for your next track that you will make on your own.
From there on you will hopefully keep developing your sound and make even more Acid House Piano House tracks. So listen tot he demo below and after you can check the short video even further down the page to see and hear what is required on this course.
The tutorial can be done at your own pace and there is no time limit on when you complete it so the pressure is off and the fun is on. The thing I like to see is people enjoy making music and not feeling stressed, so take your time with this course and if you need any help at all, just contact me and I will guide you through any issues you may have.
You can watch this extra video below to see what techniques you will be learning.
